OKLAHOMA CITY — Lieutenant Governor Matt Pinnell today expressed his support for the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education’s request for additional funding to expand the number of career training programs across the state.
Oklahoma CareerTech State Director Brent Haken asked state lawmakers this week for an increased budget to help eliminate a waiting list of about 7,500 students at across their 29 technology centers within three years.
“To retain and recruit business to the state, we must prioritize workforce development,” said Lt. Governor Pinnell. “As I visit with business owners, there is one consistent woe they each share with me: available and skilled workforce. This investment would put 7,500 more Oklahomans in CareerTech classrooms, giving them the skills they need to bolster our workforce and economy.”
Lt. Governor Pinnell serves as Oklahoma’s Secretary of Workforce & Economic Development and works closely with Oklahoma CareerTech to strengthen the state’s workforce development pipeline.
