Commercial Driver License

There are two ways to renew or replace your
Commercial Driver License: online or in-person.


Apply online in 10 minutes or less



Eligibility

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

Valid Oklahoma Address

You currently have a valid Oklahoma address

Valid Oklahoma Commercial Driver License

You currently have a valid Commercial Driver License or a license that has not been expired for more than one (1) year

US Citizen

You're a US citizen or permanent resident

DOT Medical Card

You have a Medical Examiner’s Certificate (DOT Medical Card)


You’re NOT eligible to renew online if:

  • You need to change or remove a restriction on your CDL
  • You have changed your name, and it is not reflected on your identification documents
  • You are a Hazardous Materials endorsement holder, you are required to renew in person
  • You are exempt from having a Medical Examiner's Certificate (DOT Medical Card)


Steps to Renew Your CDL


Prepare the following:

  • Primary ID — View the list of all acceptable primary identification documents
  • Proof of Oklahoma residency — View the list of all acceptable residency documents
  • A valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate (DOT medical card), if you plan to operate in non-excepted interstate commerce (i.e. leaving Oklahoma with CDL vehicles)

Receive your CDL license in the mail within 10-21 days


Eligibility

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

Valid Oklahoma Address

You currently have a valid Oklahoma address

Valid Oklahoma Commercial Driver License

A valid Oklahoma CDL or one that has not been expired for than 3 years. If your license has been expired for more than 3 years, click here to apply for a new CDL


Plan Ahead

Bring the following to your visit:

 
  • Primary ID — View the list of all acceptable primary identification documents
  • One (1) Proof of Oklahoma residency — View the list of all acceptable residency documents. If your residency has changed, two (2) proofs of Oklahoma residency are required.
  • A valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate (DOT medical card), if you plan to operate in non-excepted interstate commerce (i.e. leaving Oklahoma with CDL vehicles)

If your current last name is different from your identification documents, you will need documentation connecting your name on your primary and secondary IDs to your current name, such as a marriage license, divorce decree, adoption decree, etc. For more information, click here.

If you are a lawful Permanent Resident, you will need to bring with you a Valid, unexpired Permanent Resident Card, issued by United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) or Immigration and Naturalization Services (INS)*

You may choose to update or change your CDL self-certification status during renewal. More information can be found here.

Holders of a Hazardous Materials endorsement must take the written test for the Hazardous Materials endorsement at each renewal.

You will also be required to complete an additional TSA background check at each renewal.

Licensed Operators cannot renew Hazardous Materials endorsements.


At Your Visit


Once you have prepared the required documents, you can apply for your CDL renewal at either
 
  • A Driver License Location that offers CDL services, or
  • A Licensed Operator that offers CDL services

During your renewal, you will be asked to take a vision test.

Pay and receive your temporary license. Your CDL will arrive in the mail within 10 - 21 days.
 

If you are paying with a credit card, the permit will be printed at the Driver License Location. If you are paying with cash or a money order, the Examiner will issue a form that must be taken to a nearby Licensed Operator to get the permit printed.
