Charles "Tim" Laughlin, Executive Director

In the landmark 1963 United States Supreme Court opinion, Gideon v. Wainwright, Justice Hugo Black wrote, “In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right […] to have the Assistance of counsel for his defense.” Justice Black went on to write, “A provision of the Bill of Rights which is “fundamental and essential to a fair trial” is made obligatory upon the States by the Fourteenth Amendment.” Article II, Section 20 of the Oklahoma Constitution affirms this promise. My colleagues and I at the Oklahoma Indigent Defense System are honored to be entrusted with keeping this promise throughout our Great State.
