You can drive from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
There are no restrictions if:
You can drive with:
Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
You must have previously held a learner permit for 180 days
Must have had at least 50 hours (10 hours at night) of behind-the-wheel training from a licensed driver at least 21 years old and licensed for at least 2 years
If your permit has expired past 3 years from the expiration date, you will be required to retake the written and drive tests
Must have no traffic convictions on driving record for 180 days immediately preceding the drive test
Must complete the free online Work Zone Safe Course and bring the certificate of completion to your drive test.
Find a location to take your Class D drive test at a Service Oklahoma Licensing Office or from a designated examiner at an approved school.
Any certified Driver Education instructor, who is currently employed by any school district or commercial driver training school can apply to Service Oklahoma to become a designated examiner to administer the skills portion of the drive test. See the FAQ section at the bottom of this page for more information.
Note
No pets or additional people can be in the car with you and the examiner.
During the drive test, the Driving Examiner will tell you where to drive and what driving maneuvers to perform. See FAQs at the bottom of this page for additional information on the specifics of the drive test.
If you pass the written and vision tests, you will given a temporary paper permit to use until you receive your Intermediate License in the mail.
The fee to print and issue an Intermediate License is $25.00. Please be prepared to pay this fee.
If you do not pass the drive test, a $4.00 fee will be added to the issuance fee for each failed attempt.
Once you have met the requirements below, you can apply for an Unrestricted License.
You can re-take the drive test up to three times, each time at least one day apart or as instructed by the examiner.
If you fail the third drive test, you will have to wait 30 days before taking the test a fourth time.
The fourth attempt and any thereafter should be taken no more than one time every 30 days.
*The 30 days starts the day after the last drive test date.
If you pass the drive test, you can visit a Licensing Office or a Licensed Operator to receive your new Intermediate License. Your scores will have been uploaded into our system by the designated examiner.
If you fail the drive test, you will be given a DL18DE form from your designated examiner and will need to schedule a retake.
*You will need to bring your DL18DE form with you to your retake appointment.
The Examiner will tell you where to drive and what driving maneuvers to perform. You must show that you can:
• Control the car
• Properly perform basic maneuvers such as turning right and left, backing, parking on a hill, parallel parking, etc.
• Use signals and drive in the proper lane
• Understand and obey traffic signs, markings, and signals
• Properly apply the rules of right-of-way
• Carefully observe and correctly respond to other vehicles and pedestrians
The drive test will not be conducted when roads are considered by the examiner to be slick or hazardous.
