Technician/Salesperson License
A Technician/Salesperson is an individual employed by a licensed company to design, plan, lay out, sell, pre-wire, install, maintain, repair, test, inspect, or service equipment in the categories the applicant passes tests in. They may also sell, with the authority to sign a binding proposal to others on behalf of a licensed company, by any means including telephone, electronic device, public notice, advertisement, door-to-door, or any other type of personal interaction. This role also includes individuals who participate in the design, plan, specification, and/or layout of a system on behalf of a licensed company, but does not include those who participate in marketing only.
There are eight (8) categories the applicant can apply for:
Burglar Alarm (no testing requirement for Sales or Technician)
Residential Fire Alarm (no Sales exam)
Commercial Fire Alarm (covers Residential Fire Alarm)
Fire Sprinkler (Technician only; no salesperson)
NICET level III in water-based systems may be accepted in lieu of State test
Locksmith (no Sales exam)
Electronic Access Control (no Sales exam)
Closed Circuit Television (no Sales exam)
Nurse Call (no Sales exam)
CCTV RSA – Closed Circuit Television Residential Stand Alone (no exam for Technician, not available for Sales position)
Requirements:
Documentation of passing exam is required where applicable (exams only valid for 1 year past test date).
MUST be employed by a licensed company to receive an “Active” license.
Technician/salesperson applicants do not have to hold a Trainee License first.
Must submit fingerprints for an OSBI background check.
Provide two forms of acceptable ID.

Completed Affidavit of Lawful Presence form.
Fees:
New application: $49.00
Renewal: $35.00
Expired license renewal: Double the standard fee.
Replacement license: $25.00
Note: The expiration date of the license will not change upon renewal or replacement.
Issuance: The license will be issued once the applicant has a photo taken, IDs verified, background check results are received, and all tests are passed.
*All individuals making an initial application will need to submit a current passport photo or appear in person at ODOL or an approved process site to have their photo taken.
